$-calculus Bounded Rationality = Process Algebra + Anytime Algorithms
نویسنده
چکیده
$-calculus is a higher-order polyadic process algebra with a utility (cost) integrating deliberative and reactive approaches for action selection in real time, and allowing to capture bounded optimization and metaresoning in distributed interactive AI systems. In this paper we present basic notions of $-calculus and demonstrate the versatility of its k meta-control to plan behaviors for single and multiple agents. The approach can be understood as a generic proposal of a computational theory of AI based on search and optimization under bounded resources.

The $-Calculus of Bounded Rational Agents for Problem Solving
The $-calculus (pronounced: cost calculus) is the process algebra which provides the support for distributed problem solving based on ideas of anytime algorithms/resource bounded computation. Its uniqueness is to target real-world intractable optimization problems, and to provide support for nonalgorithmic solutions of undecidable problems. It is based on the former author's work on the Calculu...
متن کاملBounded Rationality
Russell and Wefald (Russell & Wefald 1991) propose that the study of resource-bounded intelligent systems should be central to artiicial intelligence. A resource-bounded agent acting in a time-critical domain must decide what to reason about, when, and for how long. Too little reasoning can lead to mistakes, while too much can lead to lost opportunities. We use the term bounded rationality to m...
متن کاملAnytime Bounded Rationality
Dependable cyber-physical systems strive to deliver anticipative, multi-objective performance anytime, facing deluges of inputs with varying and limited resources. This is even more challenging for life-long learning rational agents as they also have to contend with the varying and growing know-how accumulated from experience. These issues are of crucial practical value, yet have been only marg...
متن کاملBounded Anytime Deflation
This paper rearranges a key property of anytime algorithms to derive a technique that determines an admissible lower bound on the minimum solution cost. In conjunction with a class of performance metric known as ‘time-focussed metrics’, the technique can be used to determine when to abort the deflation process within an anytime planning algorithm. The aim of this paper is to exploit this techni...
متن کاملEvolutionary Computation as a Multi-Agent Search: a $-Calculus Perspective for its Completeness and Optimality
Evolutionary computation in its essense represents a multi-agent competitive probabilistic search. It is useful for solutions of polynomial and hard optimization problems. The solutions found by evolutionary algorithms are not guaranteed to be optimal and evolutionary search is computationally very expensive. Using a generic $-calculus approach to AI, based on process algebras and anytime algor...
